Contractor's All Risks Insurance (CAR)
Building a project exposes its full value — structure, materials, plant and equipment — from the day the first delivery reaches site. Contractor’s All Risks (CAR) is placed as a single contract with two sections: material damage to the works, and third-party liability arising from the works.
The material damage section covers physical loss or damage to the permanent and temporary works, materials and site installations, as well as the contractor’s plant and machinery, from any cause not specifically excluded — including fire, typhoon, flood and earthquake, covered as standard rather than sold as a costly extension. Extensions are available to carry cover through the defects-liability period, or to include existing structures affected by renovation works.
The liability section responds when the works cause bodily injury or property damage to a third party. Cambodian law requires every construction project to carry this liability cover — one of only two general insurance obligations in the country, together with liability cover for company vehicles. In practice, insurers issue material damage and liability cover together, as one policy, so the project and everyone around it are protected from the same day.
